Native Coffee Company began in 2018 as a small specialty shop in Addison, just outside Dallas, founded by father-and-son duo Tracy and Luke Jackson. In 2023, Luke — a filmmaker by trade — met legendary Colombian producer Diego Bermudez while working on a coffee project, and the collaboration that followed reshaped Native into something rare in the industry: a producer-led roastery operating at origin in Colombia alongside its Texas roots, and the exclusive showroom for Diego's most coveted lots, including his limited Hachi releases.
The premise is simple. In wine, producers are celebrated as the heroes of the bottle; in coffee, that role has traditionally belonged to roasters and traders, leaving the farmer in the background. Native exists to flip that script — sourcing from Diego's own farm and a small group of like-minded producers across Latin America and Africa, and paying growers three to four times the commodity rate plus a bonus on every bag sold. Diego, a trained physicist and engineer, brings a scientist's precision to the cup: each lot begins with a gas chromatography analysis of the cherry, followed by a tailored fermentation designed to amplify specific aromatic compounds. And because roasting happens where the coffee is grown, Native can dispatch lots as soon as 15 days off the tree — a level of freshness almost unheard of in the industry.
