Marlon Bolaños is a young and inspired coffee producer; transforming coffee on his family farm from an economic necessity to a refined and flourishing project that I am proud to support.

Early in his life, Marlon enrolled in coffee courses at SENA where he learned green coffee evaluation, sensory skills and he developed a new vision for what coffee on La Loma could be.

Marlon now calls his project The Three Coffee Farmers, after his two brothers and himself, who run the farm together. For the past several years, they’ve been cultivating higher quality varietals like gesha, Sidra, chiroso, and pink bourbon. Marlon also retooled their processing methods, employing some of the most meticulous and sophisticated methods I’ve seen. This pink bourbon honey process is no exception.

This coffee is a Kenyan varietal, SL28, known for it's sticky sweetness and dynamic acidity. Marlon includes a 72 hr in cherry fermentation, pulps the coffee and ferments it for another 72 hours before fully washing this coffee and drying it on raised beds. The result is a truly unique mix of terroir, varietal and process.

We taste:

Unique and intense lavender and agave aromas jump from the cup. First sip shows honeyed fruit and lavender flavors cooling into sweet mint and pink peppercorn. As the cup cools, mint mixes with herbaceousness reminiscent of juniper berry and fresh mint. Fresh fruit flavors peek through like raspberry, meyer lemon and nectarine.
