ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

Approximately 70% of the Elida Estate farm lies within the Volcán Barú National Park — a protected ecological reserve. The Barú Volcano reaches 3,475 m and spans 14,000 hectares with seven distinct climate zones. Elida Estate grows coffee at 1,670 to 2,200 masl, under conditions truly unique in the world. Unique growing conditions include ultra-high elevation, rich volcanic soils, a unique microclimate, low temperatures, beneficial microorganisms, unique coffee yeasts and fungi, fog and mist during the dry season, and surrounding virgin native cloud forest. Night temperatures sometimes drop below 10 °C / 50 °F in the highest areas which extends the production period and slows fruit ripening, crucial for exceptional bean development. This coffee from the Aguacate Lot was first washed and then dried in a carefully controlled dark room environment.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

This is one of our favorite lots we've received from Elida Estates. It comes from the Aguacate plot, one of the estate's highest elevation growing areas, known for its exceptional terroir and the quality of its Gesha coffees.

The combination of the plot's natural characteristics and Elida's dark room slow drying brings out remarkable floral definition and clarity. The cup opens with a distinct sweet mandarin orange character, followed by layers of bright yellow kiwi that add a tropical acidity and sweetness.

As it cools, the fruit continues to develop while the florals remain present throughout, giving the coffee a layered profile with impeccable balance.

It's a good example of what makes Panamanian Gesha from exceptional growing areas so distinctive and treasured, particularly when the terroir and careful drying process are allowed to speak for themselves.
