ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
Finca Artemira was originally a small 3 hectare farm and cattle ranch owned by Ebert’s father. After his father’s passing, Ebert’s mother took over the business and eventually fully invested in the coffee farm. Through her hard work, the farm was able to sustain the family and Ebert eventually took over the business. Now, under Ebert’s leadership, the farm has grown to 15 hectares and even placed 18th in the 2023 Peru Cup of Excellence with his washed gesha.
Ebert has two lots of gesha that he has named “Las Palmas” and “Los Cedros”. This lot is from Las Palmas and first undergoes a short 24 hour fermentation in cherry. Then, the cherries are de-pulped and washed of their mucilage. Finally, the coffee is dried for 15 days or until moisture reads 10.5%.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We're excited to share a particularly clean Gesha from Ebert Huaman in Peru. This lot is a great example of the nuanced profiles we've been finding across Peru, with a focus on stone fruit, delicate florals, and a remarkable level of clarity.
The cup opens with a lush white peach sweetness, accompanied by white jasmine florals that carry throughout. Both qualities are well defined, with the fruit giving the cup a soft, rounded sweetness while the florals add a delicate aromatic layer.
As it cools, a refreshing passionfruit character begins to emerge, bringing a brighter tropical note into the profile. It's a nuanced expression of Peruvian terroir, particularly suited to those who enjoy stone fruit and florals presented with exceptional cleanliness as this has less fermentation punchiness than a few of the other Peru lots we’ve sourced this year.
