ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
Trinidad Pena Silva’s family has a multi-generation long history of coffee farming. Up until recently, they grew varieties such as pache and caturra. However, a devastating outbreak of coffee rust disease ultimately destroyed their entire farm and they were forced to start over. Thankfully, Franco Huachez, the 2nd place winner of the 2023 Peru Cup of Excellence, allowed them to purchase gesha seeds. With those seeds, they have successfully produced high quality gesha crops. Their processing of these seeds is also incredibly straightforward. The cherries are first harvested when ripe, then depulped and fermented for 20 hours. After this they are washed and dried.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We're excited to introduce a true hidden gem from Finca El Manto Verde in Peru—one of the most distinctive washed Geshas we've tasted in recent memory.
The cup opens with subtle notes of lemongrass and osmanthus before a juicy lychee sweetness comes forward. As the coffee cools, apricot begins to emerge, adding another layer to an already complex profile. Rather than centering around a general Gesha flavor profile, this washed Gesha moves between florals and fruit with a clarity that feels both refined and effortless.
It's a coffee that rewards attention, revealing something slightly different from one sip to the next. We don't come across many washed Geshas with this kind of range, and we're happy to finally share it.
