ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
Finca Liquidámbar is a small Honduran family business, run by four members, born from the ground up with the conviction of a dream: to do something good and sustainable with coffee. Its name honors the Liquidambar tree, abundant in the region, whose autumn leaves and sweet sap perfectly symbolize what they do: transform, with patience, faith, and science, the richness of the forest and the land into the liquid amber of a cup of coffee.
The family behind Liquidámbar has experienced a multitude of hardships. Lost crops, financial struggles, and disputes all tested their resolve. Today, despite being small, they have achieved a consistent and verifiable level of quality, with scores that have placed them among the top 30 Honduran coffees according to the 2023 Honduras Cup of Excellence.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We're thrilled to bring back a washed Parainema from our good friend Alexia Mejía of Finca Liquidambar in Honduras. After years of friendship and hoping to work together, last year's harvest marked the first time we were able to buy directly from Alexia. It was a particularly meaningful release for us, and we're happy to continue that relationship with her latest harvest.
It's exciting to see how the coffee has developed after another year of plant maturation. We enjoyed last year's Parainema immensely, but this harvest has us even more excited. The profile is more transparent this time around, with exceptional clarity that lets the coffee's natural sweetness and delicate aromatics come through.
The cup opens with a very sweet mandarin orange character, bright and juicy without becoming sharp. Delicate apple blossom florals weave throughout, adding an aromatic quality that complements the citrus while keeping the profile clean and well defined.
As it cools, a red tea-like tannic quality becomes more apparent in the finish, adding a gentle dryness that balances the sweetness and gives the cup a little more depth. It's wonderful to see Alexia's coffee continue to develop from one harvest to the next, and even better to have another opportunity to share her work.
